Stoke-on-Trent Draft Local Plan Consultation

Stoke-on-Trent City Council are currently consulting on their draft Local Plan.

The purpose of the Local Plan is to guide future development in Stoke-on-Trent. It is an important document from which planning decisions affecting an area should be based.

The Local Plan is not a planning application; inclusion of a site within it does not guarantee development will take place, but rather sets the framework for future planning decisions and local policy. Anyone wishing to build on a site included in the draft Local Plan will still be required to submit detailed assessments and go through the full planning process.

If a planning application is received by the council as Local Planning Authority (LPA) then consultations on the specific proposal would be required to take place. This would include consulting Highways, Staffordshire Police, Environmental Health, Local Residents, the Local Education Authority (LEA) and many others.

Local Plan’s are an important tool in controlling future developments. Council’s need to be able to demonstrate that they have a 5-year housing land supply. If they cannot demonstrate this then planning applications that are refused by the council, could have the decision overturned by the Planning Inspectorate.

There are a number of proposed sites across Stoke-on-Trent and you can find all of the sites and details of each using the council’s interactive mapping tool https://webmaplayers.stoke.gov.uk/webmaplayers8/map.aspx?mapname=Local_Plan

It is important that local residents have their say by taking part in the consultation process before it closes on 20th October.

You can have your say using the City Council’s online consultation platform https://www.stoke.gov.uk/localplan submitting your comments by email to localplan@stoke.gov.uk or in writing to Planning Policy Team, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Civic Centre, Glebe Street, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 1HH.

If you do have feedback, it is important that you share this with the City Council via the formal channels, however, I have set up a dedicated area of my website for you to tell me what you think, so that I can represent your views in my own response.
