MP Gareth Snell welcomes guaranteed jobs for young people with disabilities and health conditions

Gareth Snell, Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent Central has welcomed an expansion of the Government’s Jobs Guarantee that will give thousands of young people with disabilities and long-term health conditions an earlier route into paid work.

From April 2027, eligible young people on health benefits will be offered a guaranteed job, on a voluntary basis, 13 weeks after their Work Capability Assessment.

The Government will cover 100% of wage costs for up to 25 hours a week for six months, while employers will receive help with onboarding costs.

Young people will also be offered mentoring and tailored support with mental health, finances and housing.

Gareth said: “A disability or health condition should never determine a young person’s future. Too many young people face unnecessary barriers when trying to enter the workplace, despite having the skills and ambition to succeed.

“In Stoke-on-Trent, I want those who are ready to work to have the opportunity to do so through meaningful paid employment, supported every step of the way. By providing help earlier, this voluntary offer will give more young people the chance to gain valuable experience, build confidence and take the first steps towards a successful career.”
