Minister hears from Stoke-on-Trent businesses in roundtable discussions

A specially arranged roundtable hosted by Gareth Snell MP gave Stoke-on-Trent businesses a unique opportunity to share their experiences and ambitions directly with the Government’s Minister for Small Business and Economic Transformation, Blair McDougall MP.

Held at Stoke Minster, the discussion brought together leaders from manufacturing, hospitality, retail, creative industries and professional services. Businesses highlighted their drive for growth, investment and innovation, and outlined where focused national support could help unlock further potential for the city and its world-renowned ceramics sector.

Gareth said: “Today’s meeting was designed to ensure the Minister could hear directly from the people who power Stoke-on-Trent’s economy.

“Our local businesses have big ambitions, and this roundtable was about showcasing those opportunities as well as discussing the support that will help them thrive.

“I want Stoke-on-Trent to have a strong, confident voice in Westminster, and today’s conversation was a step towards ensuring exactly that.”

Business representatives spoke about the importance of a long-term, strategic commitment to the ceramics industry—an industry that not only shapes local identity but also underpins key national sectors including defence, construction, healthcare and advanced manufacturing.

They also highlighted the opportunities that could be accelerated through improved access to finance, simplified support systems and continued investment in skills.

The Minister welcomed the chance to hear directly from Stoke-on-Trent businesses and outlined the Government’s ambitions to stimulate growth through the modern Industrial Strategy.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to back key growth sectors and ensure small firms across the UK can innovate, create jobs and contribute to a stronger economy.

Blair McDougall MP said: “I valued the opportunity to meet with businesses in Stoke-on-Trent and to listen firsthand to their ideas and ambitions. By focusing investment on key sectors like manufacturing and clean energy, we’re committed to creating the conditions for growth across every region of the UK.”

Gareth Snell MP added that he would continue working closely with ministers to ensure Stoke-on-Trent’s priorities are understood at national level and that local firms benefit from effective, accessible support.
