£1.5 billion into our arts, museums, libraries & heritage

Museums, libraries, arts and heritage buildings are at the heart of our communities. They’re where families gather, young people dream, and neighbours come together.

After a decade of Tory cuts, the Labour Government is investing £1.5 billion over five years to protect and restore cultural spaces across the country – including here in Stoke-on-Trent.

That includes:

  • £760 million for museums – fixing maintenance backlogs and supporting national collections
  • £425 million for arts venues – funding around 300 local projects
  • £230 million for heritage buildings – preserving historic sites and places of worship
  • £27.5 million for libraries – upgrading buildings and technology

Our local cultural institutions aren’t just buildings – they’re part of who we are as a nation. They help tell our national story and provide unique opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams. This funding will keep the doors open and the lights on for thousands of arts organisations, museums, libraries, and heritage buildings that might otherwise have been at risk of closing.

Gareth Snell MP said: “This investment means families, young people, and neighbours will continue to enjoy museums, arts, heritage, and learning opportunities. It protects over 1,000 venues and thousands of jobs, and helps the community thrive. This is Labour delivering for our communities, restoring pride in our towns, and making culture accessible to everyone, everywhere.”
