£4m INVESTMENT IN STOKE-ON-TRENT NHS BUILDINGS

Labour has announced around  £4 million of additional investment in the Stoke-on-Trent Central Constituency to fix the legacy of poor-quality buildings in the NHS.

It’s part of a 3750 million nationwide commitment to address priorities in building maintenance in hospitals and clinics  across the UK.

It means refurbishment and improvements at busy Health centres in Upper Huntbach Street, Hanley and Honeywall, Stoke, clinics at Broom Street, Hanley, the Sutherland Centre in Dresden, Hanley’s Bennett Centre and buildings at the
Royal Stoke university Hospital.

An independent investigation of the NHS by Lord Darzi, commissioner as a priority by the new Labour Government, found that historic underinvestment had led to a crumbling NHS estate with many buildings in an unacceptably poor condition.

The new funding will provide a safe and sustainable environment where the people of Stoke-on-Trent can access their health services.

Gareth Snell, MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central, said: “This funding is really good news for Stoke-on-Trent.

“We know change is desperately needed, and that is why repairing and rebuilding our healthcare estate is a vital part of our ambition to create an NHS that is fit for the future.

“It will take time to fix, but this government is committed to taking the necessary steps to achieve that.

“Here in Stoke-on-Trent we’re making progress on several issues, including town centres and safer streets.

“It’s good to see changes we promised happening for the people of our city.”
